Who can join?

Any of the following members of the Princeton University community who plays a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument can and is encouraged to join the Princeton University Wind Ensemble.

Seating Auditions

All interested musicians may audition for PUWE during the first weeks of classes of both the Fall and Spring semesters. These auditions are for seating purposes only! There are no cuts, but you must audition. Prior to the beginning of each semester, a sign-up form and all auditions materials will be available on this website and on the FB page. You are encouraged to sign up online, by email, or on a paper sign-up sheet which will also be posted on the PUWE bulletin board next to Room 102 in the Woolworth Center.

Online sign up: simply search “puwe” on WASE calendar for blocks or click this link.

Location: Woolworth room 106 (Wed) and 105 (Thurs, Fri)

Audition materials: Please prepare 1 music piece of any genre/style and length of your own. You can bring the sheet music with you. Please also prepare scales, you will be asked to play a few. Lastly, you will be asked to sightread an excerpt.

Please note: If you miss the official audition times at the beginning of the semester and are still interested, it is still possible to join the ensemble throughout the year. Just send us a message at puwe@princeton.edu or to any of our board members with “Audition Request” + your INSTRUMENT in the subject line and we’ll schedule a time to hear you.

Student Activities Fair:
(for current students):

Every September, a Student Activities Fair is held in Dillon Gym on the Friday after the first week of classes. PUWE representatives will be present at a designated table for the duration of the fair to answer all of your questions and if you are interested, sign you up for the PUWE mailing list.

(for pre-frosh):

If you have just been accepted to Princeton, you will be invited to attend “Princeton Preview,” a program offered on two weekends in April designed to give pre-frosh a taste of life as a Princeton student. A similar activities fair is held in Dillon Gym during Preview as well.. Representatives will be present at the PUWE table to answer all of your questions and if you are interested, sign you up for the PUWE listserv mailing list.

 

Music Department / Lewis Arts Center Open House:

Each year during Freshman Orientation (“Frosh Week”), the music department / Lewis Arts holds open house to introduce many of its opportunities including its ensembles. A representative will be present to speak about PUWE and answer any questions you may have.
